The La Pine R/C Flyers club was formed in the Autumn of 2007 by a group of BAM (Bend Aero Modelers) members that lived in the La Pine area and wanted a club and flying field that was closer to their homes. We applied for and received our AMA charter in December 2007 and have been an active club ever since. We obtained a usage permit from Cascade Timberland to use Dorrance Meadow as a location to develop a flying field and currently have a mat runway that measures 500 feet long by 42 feet wide. On most nice days there will be several members at the field enjoying their planes. We have a group of members that enjoy flying off water and you'll find them at Wickiup Reservoir every Tuesday morning from June until the reservoir freezes over in the winter. Our field is at 4260 feet elevation and therefore we usually have ample snow in the winter to fly with skis on our planes.
